Visiting the White House is one of the best FREE experiences you can have in Washington D.C.! If you're an American citizen you will need to contact your U.S. State Representative to set up a tour date/time in advance of your visit.
The tour itself is a self-guided, two-hour tour through the East Wing of the White House. The tour allows you to explore rooms such as: The Red Room, The Green Room, and The State Room just to name a few. Besides the rooms themselves, there are tons of portraits, pictures, statues, and artifacts to explore.

This is a great activity for families, kids, dates, history buffs, tourist, or anyone in awe of the beautiful and majestic house were our First Family resides.
ProTip: Make sure to ask the Secret Service Agents located in each room to explain the history and artifacts about the room. The Agents are very informative, and you will walk away with gems that you would never expect learn.

Bonus Tip: Try to avoid scheduling your visit during tourist season. I have been told it gets competitive to get a slot, and the security lines are long. We went in February and it took about 20-30minutes to get through security.
